Continued from hereThere was a light rain falling as Fred woke up from her nap. Rubbing her eyes, she slowly sat up and looked around the empty room. It seemed quiet and she wondered if the rest of them had left to get something or they were just being quiet so she could nap - something she did a lot of now. But, according to her baby books, the second trimester would be better and she wouldn't be tired all the time. One could hope. After running her fingers through her hair, she got out of Wesley's bed and stepped around some boxes. They had finally decided to buy the house and was just waiting for some minor repairs to be done before moving in. Fred couldn't wait, considering Hermione and her practically lived with Wesley and Rupert now. When she opened up the bedroom door, she saw Wesley sitting on the couch. He was clearly upset about something so she went over to him. "What's wrong, Wesley?" she asked, sitting next to him."I...Buffy was just here and she...""Buffy? Is something wrong? Is it the First?" Fred asked."No. It's...it was about Rupert and Hermione," Wesley said as he gave a pained look. "She thought we should know what they've been doing....Fred, they want to take the baby away when it's born."Fred gave Wesley and wide-eyed look and shook her head. "Buffy's wrong! They wouldn't do that to us!" she said, shaking her head."I don't know. They keep disappearing together and why would Buffy lie about it? Plus, whenever we leave, we almost always find them in bed together when we get home. We never do that to them. Bloody hell, I should've seen this coming," he muttered as he buried his face in his hands.Fred didn't know what to think. Wesley was right - Hermione and Rupert had been spending a lot of time together. But that wasn't what was bugging Fred at that moment. Ever since she'd found out she was pregnant, the connection between Hermione and her had disappeared. She knew she wasn't doing it so it had to be Hermione. She was purposely cutting off their connection! But still, Fred didn't know if she should believe it or not."Wesley...Buffy might be mistaken. How about we give them the benefit of the doubt and see how things go, okay?" she whispered as she rubbed his back. All Wesley could do was nod.
"You thought...?" Hermione asked, her heart suddenly found like it had been grabbed and squeezed in her chest. The First had appeared to Wesley and told them that? She felt tears filling her eyes, hot and stinging, suddenly understanding why things had been so tense lately, why things hadn't felt right. The First had tried to destroy them. And she didn't know for a moment whether to upset that it had almost worked, that Wesley and Fred had believed it, or to be relieved that they had sorted things out. She looked at her girlfriend her throat tight."I didn't do anything to the connection," she finally told her as a tear slid down her face. "I haveen't been sure what was going on, so I didn't say anything because I didn't want worry you until we knew for sure. That was why I wanted to go get the scrolls now - to see if this was because of the pregnancy. You're not terrible, though, far from it, and the babies are going to be fine."After she said that, she paused, staring at the woman she loved, her head spinning from all this, her arm itching and in pain as obviously whatever pain killer she had been given began to wear off. "But the First made you really think that I'd...? Oh, God, Fred, I don't think I could live without you anymore." She hadn't even noticed when she had picked up using "Oh, God" again."I..." Reaching over with her good hand, she took Fred's again. "I wanted to ask you to marry me, I love you so much." Then she realized how that sounded and felt herself turning red. "I still do. Love you. And want you to marry me. Oh, this was not what I had in mind."
Fred felt guilty enough but seeing Hermione crying made it worst. She didn't know what to say, and a small part of her wanted to scream at Wesley for making her believe Hermione and Rupert could do something like that to them. But, she knew it was her fault too because she chose to believe it and didn't take the time to talk to Hermione about it before jumping to conclusions."Hermione," she whispered as she reached up and swipe the tears from her girlfriend's face, "I'm sorry. I...I should've came to you but I didn't know what else to do. All of this is new to me, and I've never really loved anyone before and I...I just didn't know what to say."Fred looked down at the floor and sighed. When Hermione took her hand, and started to tell her about how she was going to ask her to marry her, Fred's head snapped up. "And I ruined it," she whispered as tears started to roll down her face. "Where-Wherever that is." She slipped off the table and pulled her shirt down and stood from the table. She looked over at Wesley and Rupert before turning back toward Hermione. "I don't want to lose you and I don't want you to be mad at me anymore," Fred quietly said as she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around her girlfriend.
